(Ackbar) Urge Chancellor to endorse Admiral Ackbar as Ole Miss Mascot!

leave a comment »

A new movement is afoot to replace the controversial “Colonel Reb” mascot at Ole Miss — the University of Mississippi. Who would the new mascot be?  Admiral Ackbar.

The student body has already voted to remove the old mascot, which some say resembles an Old South plantation owner.  But the battle is on to find a replacement.

Will you help make the case for Admiral Ackbar?

Click here to email University of Mississippi Chancellor David W. Jones.

Students at Ole Miss have already kicked off the campaign:  a Twitter link (1,300 followers!), a Facebook page, the webpage, a campus editorial, and the key arguments from the Ole Miss Rebel Alliance.

Not only that, but there has been national media attention as well:  NPR, The New York Times, and The Washington Post.

But without public pressure, Admiral Ackbar may not get the respect he deserves.  The Chancellor needs to take a stand.

Dear Chancellor Daniel W. Jones,

(chancllr@olemiss.edu, cnstuart@olemiss.edu, publicre@olemiss.edu)

I urge you to endorse Admiral Ackbar as the new mascot for Ole Miss, the University of Mississippi.

The Ole Miss student body has voted to say goodbye to the controversial “Colonel Reb,” a mascot evocative of the Old South.

As demonstrated in a critical battle in Return of the Jedi, Admiral Ackbar exemplifies the leadership qualities that so many Ole Miss alums represent.

Please offer your support for this movement.
